We are pleased to announce that Dr. Hyocheong Chae, director of Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic, will be giving a special lecture. Dr. Hyocheong Chae will be teaching a practical acupuncture pointology course at Daejeon University College of Korean Medicine, participating in the education of future Korean medicine doctors. Following last year’s acupuncture pointology lecture at Dongguk University College of Korean Medicine, this year he will be conducting a practical acupuncture pointology course at Daejeon University.
In the Korean medicine curriculum, practical acupuncture pointology is a crucial process for students to experience and learn actual acupuncture treatment. Based on his clinical experience and anatomical understanding, Dr. Hyocheong Chae feels a great sense of responsibility and purpose in participating in this education, ensuring students can master the fundamentals of safe and accurate acupuncture treatment.
Today, we would like to share the news and thoughts of Dr. Hyocheong Chae, who will be teaching the practical acupuncture pointology course at Daejeon University College of Korean Medicine. Hello, this is Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic, where good hearts reside.

Teaching the practical acupuncture pointology course at Daejeon University College of Korean Medicine Following my acupuncture pointology lecture as an adjunct professor at Dongguk University last year, this year I have been appointed as an adjunct professor at Daejeon University College of Korean Medicine to teach the practical acupuncture pointology course. I feel both excitement and a sense of responsibility in meeting future Korean medicine doctors through these consecutive opportunities. The practical acupuncture pointology course is the only time during the 6-year Korean medicine curriculum when students can actually experience acupuncture treatment.
Beyond simply confirming the locations of acupuncture points learned in theory, it is also the first gateway to preparing for various situations encountered in real clinical practice. The act of acupuncture treatment does not merely mean inserting needles to produce a therapeutic effect. It is a complex act that encompasses needling hygiene and infection control for safe patient treatment, the ability to respond to various situations that may arise during treatment, and the responsibility and judgment required as a medical professional.
I hope that students, through diligent participation in the class, will internalize during the practical course that they must possess all these qualities as future medical professionals. In particular, I structure my lectures around acupuncture point education based on anatomical structures. Dr. Hyocheong Chae of Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic emphasizes that when performing acupuncture treatment, one must thoroughly understand the anatomical structures of the human body.
This is because safe and effective treatment is only possible when one can clearly distinguish between the target tissues and structures for treatment and those that must be avoided during the procedure. Without such specialized training, even excellent theoretical knowledge is difficult to fully apply in clinical practice. Furthermore, I aim to share a perspective that reinterprets acupuncture treatment from a modern anatomical and physiological standpoint, rather than merely adhering to traditional acupuncture point theories of the past.
At the intersection of tradition and modern science I will approach my lectures with the hope that students will grow into Korean medicine doctors with a deeper and broader perspective.
