Hello. I am Dr. Hyocheong Chae, director of Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic in Dongcheon-dong, a place where kind hearts reside.

A major concern for parents during their child’s growth phase: our child’s height growth! While there would be no worries if your child eats, sleeps, and grows well, it’s a parent’s natural concern that “my child might also be short” if their child is sensitive, a picky eater, or if the parents themselves are short. Nowadays, a growth plate examination can reveal your child’s growth rate and timing, allowing us to proactively support their growth.

Sunyujae’s Growth Clinic actively helps with height growth, tailored to our child’s growth rate! We’ve previously informed you about Korean medicine growth treatment through Monthly Sunyujae. Today, we’ll share the stories of friends currently undergoing growth treatment at Sunyujae. We’re going to share the cases of three families.
Among them, the story of one family is the story of Dr. Chae’s son, who is currently a first-year high school student. Aren’t you also curious to see how he is growing with the growth herbal medicine from the growth clinic? So, for the first review, let’s share the story of Dr. Chae from Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic. First Family’s Growth Treatment Review

Below is a verbatim transcript of an interview with Director Chae. Since when have you been interested in growth treatment? My husband was more interested in children’s height than I was.
My husband, who is rather short at 172cm, had a strong desire to raise a child who was genetically short. While studying can be done later, height has a critical period, so he wanted to make sure to take good care of that period. So, from what age did you start growth treatment for your child?
My child wasn’t receiving growth treatment from the very beginning. That’s because my child had a weak constitution since childhood. They didn’t eat well, had a small appetite, and were picky about many foods.
Also, the child often had stomachaches and a sensitive disposition. Because the child presented with a chief complaint (symptoms such as stomachaches or diarrhea), strengthening the digestive system was the priority. Only by strengthening the digestive system will immunity also improve, right?
For growth treatment, building a healthy body is the top priority. Proper management of the digestive system is essential to generate the strength needed for growth during rapid growth phases. That’s why my child took herbal medicine to strengthen their digestive system from age 6 until the 5th grade of elementary school.
And then, my child started taking growth-promoting herbal medicine during their rapid growth spurt in 5th grade. My child’s eyesight isn’t very good. So, I had them take the growth-promoting herbal medicine, with herbal ingredients beneficial for the eyes added or removed as prescribed.
During exam periods, we would also adjust the herbal ingredients to boost concentration. How tall is your son now? His height is 179cm.
She’s grown significantly taller than her father, and he’s very pleased. When we measured her growth plates, it was predicted she would grow even taller, so she is still taking growth herbal medicine. Now, the child makes sure to take it herself. She says that if she takes the growth herbal medicine, her stomach doesn’t hurt and she feels comfortable, so she makes sure to take it in the morning before heading off to school.
In my child’s growth tonic, we adjust the medicinal herbs to benefit digestion and eyes, and my child feels the difference, taking it like a restorative tonic. Nowadays, many people take health supplements. Since we prepare the growth tonic by including the medicinal herbs specifically needed for our child, it’s reassuring that they don’t need to take separate nutritional supplements.
Director, then should I continuously and steadily take growth herbal medicine like your son? If the cost is a concern, there’s also a method of taking it intensively for three months before summer and three months before winter. If you take it for three months before winter, your immunity will be strengthened, allowing you to overcome colds and other illnesses in winter.
Getting sick when you should be growing can hinder your growth. Taking Seongjang-tang not only aids in height growth but also significantly helps prevent diseases by boosting immunity, antioxidant effects, and anti-inflammatory actions. If the cost is not a burden, it’s best to continue taking it.
Some people ask if continuously taking herbal medicine puts a strain on the liver. Herbal medicine does not burden the liver at all. You can tell just by looking at my child.
If it put a strain on the liver, I wouldn’t have consistently given it to my child from age 6 until the first year of high school, would I? Most importantly, it’s crucial to take herbal medicine suitable for your child long-term after a professional consultation with a Korean medicine doctor.

I heard about the growth treatment for Dr. Chae’s son? Growth herbal medicine not only supports growth but also plays a role in boosting the child’s overall health. Helping children grow tall and healthy! This is an advantage of Korean medicine treatment.
Now, let’s hear the stories of families undergoing growth treatment at Sunyujae. The second family’s growth treatment review

This is the case of a boy born in November 2010. His parents were very satisfied with Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic’s growth treatment, so they readily agreed to an interview. Below, we will convey the actual record written by the parents as is. Our heights are average, with the child’s father at 176 and mother at 162. Our child isn’t very short, but not tall either, so we visited the clinic for a check-up.
I had planned to get a growth plate test around 4th or 5th grade of elementary school, but due to COVID-19, the test was delayed until the winter break of 6th grade. At the time of the test, January 13, 2023, my child’s height was about 160cm, which is the average height for children their age. However, the growth plate results from Chung-Ang University were not good. I was advised to decide on growth-promoting or growth-inhibiting treatment, which caused me a lot of concern.
After much worry, I visited other hospitals, but at both places, I was told that my child’s final height would ultimately fall short of the average height and would be quite short. As a result, from a parent’s perspective, I became very worried and felt an urgent desire to do anything possible. However, upon researching, I heard that in the case of suppression therapy, there are instances where side effects can prevent further growth, and I was concerned about the side effects of hormone therapy, so I ultimately looked into herbal medicine at a Korean medicine clinic.
After much deliberation, I started giving herbal medicine from January 18, 2023, and by January 2024, my child’s height was around 167cm. This was very satisfying. The biggest reason we didn’t pursue hormone therapy was that in our child’s case, all hormone levels were normal, and only the bone age was advanced. Because of this situation, and due to significant concerns and doubts about whether hormone therapy was the right course of action, my husband and I decided not to proceed after discussion.
Rapid growth after the acute growth phase. While it hasn’t been rapid growth after the acute growth phase, I am very grateful for the growth herbal medicine treatment, knowing that they are still continuously growing. What’s surprising is that the child seems to feel their own height growth, as they are diligently taking the medicine and eating well. I have no regrets about choosing herbal medicine treatment without side effects, and since the child is still taking it well to this day, I have high expectations for their final height.
I would like to introduce Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic’s height growth clinic to other children who are concerned about height growth. Review of growth treatment for the third family member

The third case we’d like to introduce is the story of two brothers, two years apart. The older brother is in the first year of high school, and the younger brother is in the third year of middle school. This is the case of the older brother who transitioned to herbal medicine treatment after growth hormone injections, and the younger brother who received herbal medicine treatment after 3 months of hormone injections. Below is an interview with the brothers’ mother.
Child 1 is small compared to peers, while Child 2 is of average height. Child 1 had the experience of receiving growth hormone injections for about a year at a university hospital when in 6th grade. The expected effects of the growth hormone injections were not significant, and no special growth treatment was pursued thereafter.
Wanting to help my second younger sibling grow taller. Driven by this desire, I visited Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic by a friend’s recommendation. Perhaps inspired by seeing my younger sibling grow rapidly while taking the growth herbal medicine, my first sibling also said they wanted to take herbal medicine. Although it’s a late age (first year of high school), I thought it would surely benefit their health, even if not specifically for height, so my first sibling also started taking Sunyujae’s growth herbal medicine.
Before my child started taking the growth herbal medicine, they hadn’t reached 170cm, and I was constantly worried that their growth might stop there. Surprisingly, just one month after starting the medicine, my first child’s height began to exceed 170cm. Even now, 8 months after starting the medicine, my child is consistently taking the growth medicine.
Perhaps thanks to the growth herbal medicine, my child is spending each day in good condition without colds or minor ailments, for me, as a mother, Sunyujae’s growth herbal medicine is like reliable health insurance. Sunyujae’s growth herbal medicine was taken first by the younger brother, Child #2, not the older brother, Child #1. Even though Child #2 isn’t short, he envied Child #1 for receiving growth hormone injections and said he wanted to get them too.
Although the university hospital said it wasn’t necessary, because she wanted them so much, she got a prescription and received them for about 3 months. Getting injections every day wasn’t easy, so she ended up giving up on the injection treatment halfway through. After hearing that the director at Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic also does growth treatment well, I went for a consultation.
My younger sibling, number 2, has a digestive system that because my younger sibling, number 2, has a digestive system that isn’t strong, to strengthen digestive function while doing so, they prescribed medicine that also promotes growth. After taking it for about a month, when I measured their height, they had grown about 1cm. Even after that, by consistently taking the medicine, I think they grew about 5-6cm.
My second younger sibling, who used to be of average height, is now 178cm and considered tall, and Sibling #2 is currently satisfied with their height. Sunyujae growth herbal medicine uses ingredients beneficial to the body, allowing one to grow taller without worrying about side effects, so as a mother, it seems like a reassuring medicine.
