Dr. Hyocheong Chae, Chief Director of Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic, who conducted the Korean medicine doctor continuing education lecture. Finding Solutions for Headaches and Dizziness with Acupotomy! At this event, I participated as the Planning Director of the Korean Acupotomy Medical Society

on the topic of 「Acupotomy Treatment for Headaches and Dizziness」. as the main subject.

I delivered a continuing education lecture for Korean medicine doctors. It was a meaningful time to share the diagnostic and treatment know-how accumulated through clinical practice with Korean medicine doctors gathered from all over the country. Approximately 75% of headaches are tension-type headaches originating from muscle tension in the back of the neck, and a significant number of dizziness cases also originate from the neck (cervical spine).

The lecture covered methods for precisely approaching key anatomical areas related to headaches and dizziness, such as the suboccipital muscles (deep muscle layer where the head and neck meet), Yifeng (TE17) acupoint (behind the ear), upper cervical facet joints, and thoracic facet joints, using acupotomy (a specialized needle with a blade). Recent research has revealed that the myodural bridge (MDB), which connects the suboccipital muscles and the dura mater, is involved in cerebrospinal fluid circulation, suggesting it can affect not only simple headaches but also conditions like brain fog and cognitive decline.

It is being reported that it can have an impact. Chronic headaches that don’t improve even after long-term medication, cervical dizziness that occurs when changing posture, and residual dizziness remaining after benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) treatment are often not just simple pain but have structural causes. Acupotomy is a treatment method that directly addresses these structural issues, performed safely based on deep anatomical knowledge and ultrasound-guided techniques.

Our clinic will continue to strive to provide more accurate and safe treatment to our patients through academic activities and clinical research.
