Hello, this is Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic, where kind hearts reside.

Korean medicine has roots in tradition, but it must advance further through modern medical verification and scientific research. Among its various treatments, acupotomy has been utilized for a long time based on clinical experience, but research to scientifically elucidate its effects and mechanisms is still needed. Recently, Dongguk University College of Korean Medicine and the Korean Society of Acupotomy Medicine signed an MOU for research cooperation in acupotomy medicine.
The news of this MOU signing was also published in AKOM NEWS (Korean Medicine Newspaper), and we will also share the comments of Dr. Hyocheong Chae, who was responsible for the planning and research execution of the agreement. AKOM NEWS Published on 25 August 2025 Dongguk University College of Korean Medicine – Korean Society of Acupotomy Medicine, MOU Signed for Acupotomy Medicine Research Cooperation Laying the Foundation for Strengthening Acupotomy Medicine Research Base and Fostering Education and Professional Personnel Dongguk University College of Korean Medicine and the Korean Society of Acupotomy Medicine
For the Advancement and Cooperation of Acupotomy Medicine Research a business agreement (MOU) was signed. Through this agreement, both institutions will pursue joint research, personnel exchange, sharing of research infrastructure, and establishment of research networks, aiming to scientifically elucidate the efficacy and mechanisms of acupotomy treatment to strengthen clinical evidence and develop it into a globally recognized therapeutic technique.
Attendees emphasized that this cooperation will expand the academic, clinical, and educational foundations of acupotomy medicine and serve as an important cornerstone for Korean medicine to grow into an evidence-based medical science. Dr. Hyocheong Chae was responsible for the planning and execution of the research for the MOU signing between the two institutions. Dr. Hyocheong Chae’s comments: Sunyujae Korean Medicine Clinic will scientifically prove the effectiveness of acupotomy treatment through research via the MOU.
“For a long time, I have conducted various studies on acupuncture treatment,
especially to scientifically elucidate the effects of acupotomy. Through this, I was able to confirm the excellence of acupotomy treatment. Through this agreement, we plan to create various experimental models and specifically clarify, histologically and genetically, what changes acupotomy treatment actually creates within the body.
Among the facts confirmed during the research process one is that acupotomy treatment has a lower recurrence rate and fewer side effects than conventional surgery. I believe this is even more significant as it aligns with my clinical experience in the examination room. I am confident that if we can scientifically prove these effects in the future, acupotomy treatment can evolve beyond a mere Korean medicine procedure into a globally recognized therapeutic technique.
